Homeowners along Gulf Beach Drive near San Luis Pass in Brazoria County face a crumbling access route that has blocked vehicle entry to many properties since Hurricane Beryl struck in 2024. The road, which serves as the primary frontage for these residences, has deteriorated to the point where several residents must park away from their homes and walk the final stretch.

Tereasa Wagonseller, who purchased her home in 2021, noted that the pavement was solid upon her arrival. After the 2024 storm destroyed the original surface, a temporary road was constructed. That interim fix has since cracked extensively. Wagonseller pointed to a fracture running the length of the remaining section, predicting the pavement will soon split and fall into the water.

While Wagonseller can reach her driveway by cutting across an empty lot, her neighbors lack this alternative. She stated that the lack of street access remains a persistent frustration for taxpayers. "I pay my tax dollars, and I can't have a street with front access to my home," she said.

The Treasure Island MUD District maintains that road upkeep falls under its jurisdiction. However, the district told ABC13 that repairs require coordination with multiple agencies, specifically the Texas General Land Office. The MUD District described the current coordination efforts as a "real mess" in a statement, noting that no immediate repairs have been finalized.

Both the GLO and the MUD District are working toward a permanent fix called the Treasure Island MUD-San Luis Pass Revetment Project. The MUD District indicated that this long-term solution is years away from completion.
