San Antonio faces a wet stretch this week, with the National Weather Service forecasting multiple rounds of showers and a chance of rain lingering into the weekend. Forecasters say showers are possible Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the highest probabilities concentrated Thursday and Friday.

The Weather Service says more than half the region could see showers on both of those days. Its statement notes that there still may be enough lift for isolated showers Friday night and Saturday, and that cloudy skies and rain will keep Thursday and Friday highs mostly in the 70s. Dry weather is expected to return Saturday night through Monday, with the weekend warmer and mainly dry.

Flash flooding cannot be ruled out for Thursday and Friday, though the Weather Service says the forecast will become clearer as the week progresses. Halloween trick-or-treating calls for a very slight chance of showers, but any rain should be gone by nightfall, with temperatures in the mid-70s as porch lights come on.

Rainfall at San Antonio International Airport has reached nearly 30 inches since Jan. 1, which is about two inches above the normal pace for late October. Bexar County has been slipping back into drought conditions after a wet July and the remnants of Hurricane Polo in September.

Temperatures this week should stay mild, with highs just above or just below 80 and morning lows in the 60s. October marks the start of San Antonio's fall weather pattern, when cold fronts begin arriving more frequently. Weather records show the city's first freeze usually occurs around Thanksgiving, give or take a few days either side of the holiday.
