Texas Children's Hospital has opened a detransition clinic following a settlement announced in May. The hospital must fully fund the clinic's services for the first five years under the terms of the agreement with the state's attorney general's office. The clinic is described as a multidisciplinary unit providing care to individuals who previously received gender-transition care.

The agreement resolved claims brought under the Texas Health Care Program Fraud Prevention Act. The hospital agreed to pay a total of $10 million to settle allegations that it billed Texas Medicaid for illegal gender-transition interventions. Of that sum, more than $8 million goes to the state. The hospital will also pay $1.7 million to whistleblower Vanessa Sivadge.

The clinic will offer detransition-related care to patients through age 21. For patients older than 21, the facility will provide detransition-related obstetric and gynecologic care. The hospital is also required to promote the clinic on its website. As part of the settlement, the hospital permanently revoked the privileges of five doctors who are or were associated with the institution.

Attorney General Ken Paxton confirmed the clinic's opening in a statement. "In accordance with my settlement with Texas Children’s Hospital, the nation’s first-ever Detransition Clinic is now open," Paxton said. He added, "I will continue to ensure that this clinic provides the care and support that victims of the radical left’s gender ideology deserve. Together, we will protect our children and defeat the dangerous ideology that has inflicted irreversible harm on innocent kids."

The settlement was reached in May between Texas Children's Hospital and the state attorney general's office. The agreement mandated the creation of the clinic and specified the financial penalties. The hospital has now implemented the clinic structure and funding plan as outlined in the settlement documents.
