Sixteen ballistic missiles struck Ukraine during the night of October 26 to 27. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the figures on X, noting that the barrage included more than 280 drones. The attack targeted ten oblasts, including Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Kherson, and Chernivtsi.
Zelenskyy described the strike as a serious escalation aimed at Ukrainian logistics. He stated that Russian forces hit the Pivdennyi Bridge in Kyiv. The president said targets across the country were primarily the energy sector, logistics networks, and urban infrastructure.
Twelve people were injured in a strike on a university campus in Kyiv on the evening of October 26. Zelenskyy specified that five of the injured were students or university staff. He noted that Russian forces launched the ballistic missiles while emergency services were still responding to the earlier impact on the campus.
The president criticized recent delays in receiving interceptor packages for Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems. He argued that these artificial delays are helping Russia achieve its campaign objectives. Zelenskyy said his team would discuss the issue with the United States again after waiting nearly a month for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to sign off on the missiles.
Ukrainian air defense forces reported destroying or jamming 257 Russian aerial assets by 09:00 on October 27. This count included two Iskander-M or S-400 ballistic missiles and 255 drones. The drones comprised 56 jet-powered Shaheds, Gerbera attack drones, and Parodiya decoy UAVs.
Kyiv served as the main target of the overnight attack. The Russian military used Iskander-M and S-400 ballistic missiles alongside the drone swarm. The strike occurred on the same day Zelenskyy announced the delay in US missile deliveries.
