A winner-take-all contest will decide the District 29-6A championship when Brennan and Harlan meet at Farris Stadium on Friday night. Both programs enter the Week 11 matchup unbeaten in district play with 7-0 records.
The contest determines the district leader ahead of the playoffs. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The outcome will place the victor at the top of the standings for the regular season finale.
Brennan has controlled its district schedule through high scoring and tight defense. The Bears average 60 points per game against district opponents. They have allowed just three total touchdowns to those opponents. Their only loss this season came in overtime against Vandegrift in Week 1.
Head coach Stephen Basore described the upcoming game as a major test for his team. He noted that while coaches often prefer large margins of victory, this matchup is expected to be close.
“Something tells me this one’s going to be a nail-biter,” Basore said. “It’s exciting.. But as coaches I like it when we’re up by a lot and we can relax a little.”
Player preparation has focused on consistent execution. Senior running back Jaycen Pullins credited the team’s defense for limiting opponents. Junior cornerback Myles Oliver emphasized daily film study and physical readiness to avoid mistakes.
Harlan enters the game as the reigning district champion. The Hawks defeated Brennan last season. Head coach Matthew McKinney said the title race has consistently featured these two schools for the past six or seven years.
“I’m guessing going back by the last six or seven years, it’s either them or us that are the district champions,” McKinney said. “Having this game at Week 11.. is going to be really exciting for not just Brennan and Harlan, but for all of San Antonio.”
Harlan players expect the game to come down to precision. Junior wide receiver Jordan Sneed said the team with fewer errors will win. Senior defensive end Conner Stevens viewed the contest as a crucial preparation for the upcoming playoff round.
“I just think whoever executes more is going to go out there and get the win,” Sneed said. “We need to get this one done,” Stevens added.
KSAT 12 will provide extended coverage of the game on its Nightbeat program and streaming platforms at 10:35 p.m. on Friday.
