Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson has a third missed game in a row ahead, with his coach saying there is only an outside chance he plays again this year.

Head coach Collin Klein told reporters on Monday that Johnson is unlikely to suit up against Oklahoma State on Saturday. The Wichita, Kansas, native is a fourth-year player who has started 32 games for the Wildcats in Manhattan. Klein described the injury timeline as longer than not, leaving the team's status for the remainder of the season undecided.

The Wildcats have had to rely on two different quarterbacks in their last two contests. Jacob Knuth started the Oct. 24 loss to Arizona State, a 28-17 defeat. Blake Barnett took the field last Saturday for an overtime loss to Colorado.

Klein admitted his heart breaks for Johnson, a key figure in the program. He noted that the team has faced difficult circumstances over the last 10 weeks. The coach credited the players in the room for battling through these challenges and supporting one another, stating he has not seen a situation like this before in his career.

K-State enters Saturday's match with a 4-4 record. The game against Oklahoma State is scheduled to begin at noon.
