The University of Texas women's basketball team will host Baylor University in an exhibition game at Moody Center on Thursday at 7 p.m. The matchup was announced on Wednesday after Eastern New Mexico University dropped out of the scheduled slot.
A news release from Texas stated that the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds could not play due to a lack of depth and available players. This change introduces a new opponent for the Longhorns on their preseason slate. Admission to the game is free.
The two programs have a long history of competition. Texas holds a 62-50 advantage in the all-time series against Baylor. The teams have met only once since Texas left the Big 12 Conference following the 2023-24 season.
Baylor presents a stronger challenge than the Division II Greyhounds. The Bears enter the season unranked in the Associated Press poll but received the 28th-most votes. They are projected to finish third in the Big 12. Senior guard Taliah Scott will lead the team alongside transfers Skylar Jones, Kate Koval, Reese Ross, Tianna Thompson, and Trinity Turner.
Texas currently holds the No. 6 ranking in the AP preseason poll. The Longhorns have already played exhibition games against No. 2 UConn and No. 11 UCLA this month. Their regular season opens at home on November 4 against Fairleigh Dickinson.
