Buffalo band to play halftime at new stadium

More than 45,000 fans will receive light-up bracelets during halftime of the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs game on Nov. 26, according to a team announcement made on Friday. The interactive lighting effect will turn the crowd at the new Highmark Stadium into part of the performance for the hometown rock group, the Goo Goo Dolls.

The Bills confirmed the band, which was formed in Buffalo, will take the stage during the Thursday night matchup. The performance is set to occur on the Bills Legends Deck, a location the team said offers a unique vantage point visible from across the stadium.

The game marks the third contest of the NFL’s Thanksgiving schedule. The Detroit Lions will host the Chicago Bears in the early afternoon, followed by the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles in the late afternoon. The Bills and Chiefs, featuring quarterbacks Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, will close the slate at night.

Frontman John Rzeznik addressed the current debate over political content in halftime shows during a September interview with producer Rick Beato. Rzeznik stated that he refuses to lecture concertgoers on politics, noting that fans from all ideological backgrounds gather for the same reason: to enjoy the music.

"I got people, fans, friends from every walk of life, every political stripe, everything," Rzeznik said. "And I always stress, we got one thing in common because we're living in weird times. We got one thing in common, and that's we're all here to see a show, and I'm not going to lecture people about anything."

Other musical acts are scheduled for the holiday games. Rapper Skilla Baby will perform during the Lions and Vikings matchup, while country artist Miranda Lambert is set to appear at the Cowboys and Eagles game.

The Bills and Chiefs will meet at Highmark Stadium on Nov. 26. The Goo Goo Dolls will perform at halftime, with fans using the provided PixMob bracelets to create synchronized lighting effects throughout the venue.
