Voters in Laredo, Texas, will cast ballots again in December. No candidate in the Laredo College Board of Trustees Position 9 race won a majority on Tuesday. The election now moves to a citywide runoff. Incumbent Tita Vela faces challenger Dr. Eduardo L. in the final round.

The position represents a specific seat on the local college board. Three candidates competed in the general election held on Tuesday. None received enough votes to win outright. Texas election rules require a runoff when no candidate crosses the 50 percent threshold. The next vote is scheduled for next month.

Tita Vela currently holds the office. She is the incumbent in this contest. Dr. Eduardo L. is the primary challenger seeking the seat. The runoff will determine who occupies Position 9 on the board. The outcome affects local governance over college operations in the region.

The general election took place on Tuesday. Polling sites closed on that day. Results showed a split among the three contenders. Because no single candidate achieved a majority, the election process extended. Residents must return to the polls in December to resolve the contest. The runoff is citywide in scope.

Context from the surrounding political environment in Laredo shows active voter engagement. Campaign signs have begun to come down in various parts of the city. However, discussions about the election results continue among residents. Some voters monitored the results late into Tuesday night. The political work in South Texas is described as just beginning despite the end of the general election.

In nearby Rio Bravo, the Webb County Elections Office released unofficial final results. Amanda Perez Aguerro was listed with 100 percent for the mayor position. For City Council Point 1, Adriana Villarreal received 67.84 percent and Ismael Rincon received 32.16 percent. These results stand as unofficial figures released by the county office.

In the 28th Congressional District, voters reelected incumbent Democratic Representative Henry Cuellar. This district includes parts of the Laredo area. The re-election adds to the broader picture of local political outcomes. Volunteers associated with the campaigns have returned to their regular jobs. Polling sites have closed for the general election cycle.

The runoff for Position 9 remains the immediate next step in the Laredo College Board race. Tita Vela and Dr. Eduardo L. are the only two candidates in the December vote. The general election results did not produce a winner. The next election date is set for next month. Voters will choose between these two remaining candidates.
