The Milwaukee Brewers have built a 3-0 lead in the 2026 World Series. The team defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. This victory marks the first championship opportunity in franchise history, with one win remaining for a title.

The Brewers generated a World Series record eight two-out runs during the fifth inning. The rally began against former Brewer Freddy Peralta. Left-hander Cam Booser entered the game with the bases loaded and two outs. Brice Turang grounded a sharp single to center field, scoring two runners. The Brewers followed with seven consecutive hits. No home runs were hit during the inning. The team strung together the seven straight two-out hits, a new postseason record.

Jackson Chourio led the lineup with four hits. William Contreras recorded three hits, bringing his postseason total to 18. This total is the most in Milwaukee playoff history. The Brewers have outscored the Rays 18-7 across the series. The team has hit only one home run during this span. This grinding style helped Milwaukee secure an MLB-high 103 wins in the regular season and a 10-1 start in the playoffs.

Rookie left-hander Robert Gasser pitched six shutout innings for the Brewers. He allowed one hit and faced the minimum number of batters. Gasser lowered his postseason earned run average to 0.60 over 15 innings. He became the first left-hander to face the minimum over at least six innings in a World Series game since Sandy Koufax in 1965. Brandon Woodruff, 33, returned from a shoulder injury sustained on July 4. He closed the game by getting the final three outs.

Manager Pat Murphy emphasized that the Rays remain a capable opponent. He noted that the series is best-of-seven and that anything can happen. Rays third baseman Junior Caminero acknowledged the difference in performance. He stated that the Brewers are playing better and that things are going their way. The atmosphere at Tropicana Field was dominated by a large group of visiting Brewers fans. It was difficult to identify the home crowd during the fifth-inning rally.

History favors the team with a 3-0 lead. In the 121 World Series prior to this year, 25 teams took a 3-0 lead. All 25 of those teams won the championship. Twenty-one of those series ended in a sweep. The Brewers will play the Rays in Game 4 on Tuesday night. A victory would make Milwaukee the first team to sweep both the League Championship Series and the World Series since the LCS adopted a best-of-seven format in 1985. The 1976 Cincinnati Reds were the last team to achieve a double sweep.
