The Red River Cultural District will expand its annual Free Week festival to three days in January 2027. The event, scheduled for January 7 through 9, will feature admission-free performances by local musicians.

The festival has grown from a two-day event to a three-day gathering. In 2026, the event hosted more than 80 acts across 14 venues in the Red River Cultural District. The nonprofit organization behind the district uses the festival to support local artists and fund community projects.

The district also runs a similar summer event called Hot Summer Nights. Both events provide paid opportunities for Austin musicians and encourage attendees to spend money at local businesses. Attendees move between venues without ticket commitments, though early arrival is recommended for popular sets.

Artists can apply for the 2027 event online at no cost. The organization will notify accepted performers at least 30 days before the festival begins. The call for entries includes bands, solo artists, and DJs. The press release encourages performers who have not played at a Red River Cultural District event in the past two years to submit applications.

Nicole Klepadlo, executive director of the Red River Cultural District, stated that the festival prioritizes the local music community. She said the event creates opportunities for artists and venues while allowing residents to experience local talent. Klepadlo added that the organization is pleased to bring the festival back for three days in 2027.
