Brad Cascio held the lead in the 21st Judicial District Attorney race as of 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. He secured the majority of early votes in all three parishes within the district. The results were released while election day ballots remained in the counting process.

The early vote totals show Cascio ahead in every jurisdiction. In Livingston Parish, he captured 64% of 14,547 early votes. In Tangipahoa Parish, he won 66% of 12,294 early votes. In St. Helena Parish, he took 51% of 1,379 early votes.

Supporters gathered for a watch party in Hammond to view the results on a television screen. A live band performed during the event as numbers came in.

This contest marks the first competitive election for the office in 30 years. Brad Cascio currently serves as an assistant district attorney. His opponent, Sherman Mack, is an attorney and former legislator. Both candidates are Republicans.

The campaign has been expensive and contentious. The two candidates raised nearly $1 million combined. The position carries substantial power in the region. The winner determines who faces criminal charges, who receives plea offers, and how cases proceed through the courts.
