Gulfport has reclaimed the number one position in the WLOX high school football rankings for Week 11. The Admirals moved to the top of the poll following their recent victory over D'Iberville.
D'Iberville fell to the second spot after losing that game by a score of 28-24. Poplarville and Pass Christian hold the third and fourth positions, respectively. Both teams enter the 4A playoffs with undefeated records after securing their district championships.
Picayune ranks fifth after winning its sixth consecutive region title. St. Martin remains sixth following a bye week. Hancock sits seventh, ahead of Pearl River Central in eighth place, despite the Hawks winning a recent matchup against the Blue Devils. Greene County is ninth after finishing the regular season with a 7-3 record, and East Central completes the top 10.
Ocean Springs, Stone, Gautier, and Biloxi also received votes in the poll.
WLOX has selected Pascagoula at Gautier as the Game of the Week. The matchup, known as the Singing River Classic, carries major implications for 6A playoff seeding. Last season, Pascagoula improved its all-time record against Gautier to 14-10. However, the Gators have won four of the last six meetings between the rivals.
If Pascagoula wins Friday, the Panthers will clinch a playoff berth and eliminate Gautier from contention. A Gautier victory would eliminate Pascagoula from the playoffs. The Gators would then need either Hancock to defeat Long Beach or Picayune to beat Pearl River Central to secure a spot.
A full preview of the matchup airs on Wednesday night at 10 p.m. on WLOX. This segment leads into the Friday Night Football Showdown, which airs on Thursday night this week.
