Jerry Jones keeps Brian Schottenheimer, but Indy's Shane Steichen lacks a similar guarantee
Dallas retained its head coach after an overtime loss to Arizona, while Indianapolis faces a potential dismissal for its leader following a 42-7 defeat by Jacksonville.

The contrast between two NFL front offices became stark on Sunday. Dallas chose stability. Indianapolis appears poised for a shakeup.
The Dallas Cowboys fell to the Arizona Cardinals in overtime at home. The team led 14-3 at halftime and 17-10 after three quarters. The Cardinals mounted a comeback behind Gardner Minshew. Tyler Allgeier rushed for 147 yards against Dallas. He gained only 64 yards in his previous three games combined. This marked the Cowboys' third home loss in four games. They have won consecutive games only once under Schottenheimer.
Owner Jerry Jones spoke to reporters after the game. He stated that firing Schottenheimer is not a looming move. Jones said, 'We're not going to get into anything, that's not in my mind at this time.' He added that the team needs to win when it has the opportunity. Jones blamed the team's performance on collective failure. He noted, 'A lot of people let Brian down today.' Jones said the team must be better for the fans.
The situation in Indianapolis is different. The Colts lost 42-7 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is their fourth consecutive loss. The team fired its general manager and traded multiple star players. Running back Jonathan Taylor is on the verge of being traded. Quarterback Daniel Jones remains the starting signal caller despite questions about his role. Steichen said, 'I'm going to evaluate everything, every position going forward.' This statement came after Jones received a two-year extension in March. Steichen seemed willing to change his stance on the quarterback after the loss.
Owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon has already made changes. She fired the general manager and ordered the trading of top talent. The Jaguars exploited the Colts' defense. They rushed for 183 yards and threw three touchdown passes. Trevor Lawrence completed those passes. The defensive effort was weak. Players allowed easy gains against tackle attempts.
If the Colts fire Steichen, they have internal candidates. Lou Anarumo is the defensive coordinator. Jim Bob Cooter is the offensive coordinator. Both have interviewed for head coach jobs in the past. Irsay-Gordon may move to replace Steichen as early as Monday. If she waits, it may only be a temporary stay. The pressure on Steichen to stay in the job is rising.
Jones keeps Schottenheimer. Irsay-Gordon may not keep Steichen. The decision in Indianapolis will likely come within days. The Cowboys will continue with their current staff. The Colts are in a state of flux. The next few days will determine the fate of the Indianapolis head coaching position.
