A domestic dispute at a northwest Houston apartment complex turned violent on Saturday evening when a father brought supplies to his partner. The incident left a 40-year-old grandmother dead and her grandchild in critical condition.
Houston Police Department officers arrived at the 7700 block of Willow Chase Boulevard around 7:35 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Police said the man had come to the unit to deliver diapers to the 19-year-old mother of his infant child.
According to investigators, an argument developed between the father and the mother. The man drew a firearm and shot the 40-year-old woman in the back. He then shot the infant in the abdomen.
The 19-year-old mother was not injured. She carried the wounded baby outside the apartment to safety. When officers entered the unit, they found the father inside. He had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead.
Lt. Pulido of the Houston Police Department noted that officers performed CPR and applied a chest seal to the 40-year-old woman before paramedics took over. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported both victims to a nearby hospital. The grandmother died upon arrival at the medical facility.
The infant remains in critical condition. The Homicide Division is leading the investigation. Authorities have not released the names of the victims or the shooter while they notify family members.
