Two young adults lost their lives and six others sustained injuries during a shooting at The Hideaway nightclub in Jackson early Sunday morning. Police officers arrived at the venue around 1 a.m. after receiving multiple calls about gunfire. They found several people on the ground with gunshot wounds.

Victims identified as 20-year-old Lovdia Poindexter and 18-year-old Jada Henderson were pronounced dead at the scene. Their next of kin received notification from law enforcement. Six additional victims were transported to local hospitals. Medical staff described their injuries as non-life-threatening. The wounded group included four females, aged 18, 18, 19, and 20, and two males, aged 19 and 20.

Jackson State University President Dr. Denise Jones Gregory confirmed that students were among the victims in an email sent to the campus community on Sunday. She offered support to the affected students and their families. In response to the incident, the university canceled all undergraduate classes for Monday and Tuesday.

Preliminary findings from the Jackson Police Department indicate that two unidentified men wearing ski masks entered the club shortly before the shooting began. At least one suspect pulled a firearm and fired into a crowd gathered on the dance floor. The motive for the attack remains unclear.

Detectives interviewed witnesses at the scene while evidence technicians collected and documented multiple shell casings. Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area to identify the suspects. The police department asks anyone with information to contact them at (601) 960-1800 or Crime Stoppers at (601) 355-8477.
