Five people sustained gunshot wounds during two separate incidents that occurred on Halloween night in East Lansing, Michigan. East Lansing Police Chief Jennifer Brown confirmed the injuries during a press conference held on Sunday afternoon. The police department responded to a total of four separate calls that evening, with the two shootings accounting for all five victims.

The first incident was reported near the intersection of M.A.C. Avenue and Linden Street. Multiple shots were fired at that location, resulting in three people being transported to the hospital. Officials listed two of these individuals in stable condition, while the status of the third victim had not yet been determined. Later that night, a second shooting was reported in the area of Stoddard and Frye Avenues. Two additional people were shot in this second incident, and both are currently listed in stable condition.

Investigators recovered multiple firearms from the scene of the second shooting. However, Brown stated that officials were not yet certain if these specific weapons were used in the violence. She noted that several individuals were taken into custody in connection with the events. The police department has not yet determined if the two shootings are linked. It also remains unclear whether any of the victims are students at Michigan State University.

A spokesperson for the university stated that the Department of Police and Public Safety assisted East Lansing Police during the response. The university clarified that the criminal activity did not place a direct threat on the campus and did not occur on its grounds. Brown also reported that the East Lansing Fire Department handled 91 total incidents over a 24-hour period. This total included 75 incidents that occurred specifically during the Halloween night timeframe.
