John Goodman is joining the cast of Netflix's "The Beast in Me" for its second season.
The actor will play Jack, father to Aggie Wiggs, the role Claire Danes played in Season 1. Netflix confirmed in September that Danes would return, and said at the time that plot details for the new episodes were still under wraps. Goodman's casting was reported by Variety on Wednesday.
Goodman has picked up 11 Emmy nominations across his career, seven for his lead role on "Roseanne." He took the award for outstanding guest actor in a drama in 2007 for "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." He later came back as Dan Conner when "Roseanne" was revived under the title "The Conners," which ran seven more seasons. His other TV work includes "The Righteous Gemstones" at HBO and "Damages" at FX. On film, he has appeared in "Raising Arizona," "Barton Fink," "The Big Lebowski" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" with the Coen brothers, plus "Digger," "Argo" and "Flight." Gersh and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz represent him.
Netflix first ordered "The Beast in Me" as a limited series in 2024, and it competed in that category at this year's Emmy Awards. Matthew Rhys won for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series for Season 1, and the show also won for outstanding music composition for its original dramatic score. Netflix and the production team then began weighing a second season and opened a writers' room earlier this year.
Howard Gordon, who ran Season 1, will serve as co-showrunner for Season 2 alongside Daniel Pearle, an executive producer on the first season. Gabe Rotter created the series and executive produces. Danes will executive produce again while starring, and the producing team also includes Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Conan O'Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross and Jodie Foster. 20th Television produces the series.
No release date for Season 2 has been set.
