Local residents gathered at the Macedonia Baptist Church to judge chili and inspect vintage vehicles.
The event, held directly across the street from the Macedonia Fire Department, served as a fundraising effort for the station.
Organizers introduced the car show and chili cook-off after deciding to replace the Haunted Forest fundraiser previously held with the North Forrest Fire Department.
Assistant Chief Austin Extine stated the team brainstormed a unique local activity to generate new revenue.
"We had to sit down and come up with a new revenue stream of fundraising after we concluded doing the Haunted Forest with the North Forrest Fire Department," Extine said.
"That lead us to figuring out ‘Hey, what can we do that would be unique to us,’" he added.
The first iteration of the event last year exceeded the department's expectations.
"We ran it last year, had absolutely no idea how well it was going to work, but it turned out to be a great success for us," Extine noted.
This year's lineup included motorcycles, rat rods, jeeps, and off-road vehicles.
Attendees purchased armbands to sample chili from various contestants and cast votes for the winner.
The fire department aims to make the event an annual tradition during this time of year.
